Pony Club? We're Lovin' It!

Over the past several years I have tried to provide opportunities for my almost eight year old granddaughter to develop a passion for horses and riding that we could share. This January, when we joined the Keeneland Pony Club, I believe I found the best opportunity possible for her in so many ways!

At the encouragement of seasoned parents, officers, and members we jumped in and began preparing for Quiz Rally.  I wasn’t sure how long the interest in studying would last, but with Mrs. Walli's enthusiastic meetings and computer games such as Pony Prep she remained committed.  She quickly had  every mounted meeting highlighted on the calendar and the countdown was on until a games practice would occur.  How she found YouTube videos of games rallies from other countries I’m not sure, but I think they pumped her up even more!

This has been a wonderful experience for us both. Not always easy, but definitely worth the effort.  Both Quiz and Games Rally she thoroughly enjoyed.  I have watched her independence, ability, and knowledge really grow in such a short period of time.  For me it has been fun meeting parents of “horsey” kids and sharing stories and food.  Best of all, she is discovering new riding opportunities and friends whom she can also share her passion with.  I love that Pony Club creates a community of individuals to foster proper horsemanship and build strong riders in a sport that can become very isolating and individualized.  I hope we have many years in Pony Club to help others as we have been helped.

I think this quote by Napoleon Hill summarizes my impression of Pony Club:  “It is literally true that you can succeed best and quickest by helping others succeed!”.

Thank you to everyone who has helped us!
